The Home School Herald

Welcome

The Home School Herald is a place for links, information, and support for your home schooling adventures.

This site has been neglected for a bit, but it will have lots of new updates as of August 25th 2008. Including curriculum reviews and links to purchasing opportunities.

The Home School Mom

By Jaquelyn Moses

home school starts at half past nine
- at least, that's if we start on time

at ten till nine we clear the table
and get dressed if we are able

we yawn and stretch and get to work
or play and dig up backyard dirt

we take big breaks from boring stuff
and decide just when we've had enough

read science in a book - absurd
we'll stare mesmerized at a bird
that eats its morning feed
from our birdhouse filled with seed

learning math at the dollar store
learning art as we color on the floor

we'll learn from the library shelf
from all the books we pick ourself

undisciplined? unruled?
it doesn't mean we're all unschooled
hey, for the wages that I'm earning
I'm just happy that they're learning.

If this sounds like a summary of your home school or you wish it did, venture further with me.

Home School is an adventure. Adventures can be wonderful and exhilirating or tiresome and exhausting. It all depends on the roads you take and choices you make along the journey.

The purpose of this site is to enrich whatever home school journeys you may be taking. Whatever your home school ideology, unschooling, classical, Charlotte Mason, independent, charter school, etc,  use this site as a gateway to the kind of home school adventure you and your family are craving.

You will have the opportunity to join us for thematic cooperative unit studies in Fall 2008 or you can join us for our Friday PE group. There are links to great sites, ideas from experienced and seasoned home schoolers, specific help from Homeschool Harriet, curriculum reviews,  advice on classroom management, budgeting, referrals for help with learning differences, and even art and music lessons. If it's not here, let me know and I'll try to add it!
